About Room 16

Room 16 is the main stream new entrant class at Kawakawa Primary. All the students are 5 years old and love coming to school and learning with Whaea Narelle, our kaiako. We are hands-on class that are learning to take responsibility for our learning and become our own teachers. We are discovering our learning skills through a process called learning through play. Have a look and see how we extend and challenge ourselves.

Water play fun!

Room 16 and Room 17 love water!

Because our topic is awa and we have been talking about things we already know about it, we decided to have a water play day which allowed us to see
some ways that we use water for fun.
We worked with our friends in Room 17 and showed our values of respect and responsibility as we patiently waited, cheered and took turns.
Stay tuned for some awesome mahi about our special day!

Water safety

Room 16 has been learning about water safety with Nikki. We learned how to keep each other warm and how to float using our jackets. We had lots of fun and enjoyed showing Nikki our favourite part of swimming! Some of us were lucky enough to catch some rain drops in our mouth!

Collaboration time with Room 16 and Room 17!

Let's do some Maths!
Room 16 and Room 17 have been working together and learning about data and graphs. Together we made a pictograph of our favourite pets. We found out that the most liked pet was a fish and the least liked was a frog. Some of us also made predictions that were correct!

Welcome to Room 16's Blog whanau!

Kia ora whanau!

Room 16 is so ready for our 2018 learning journey. So far we have learned about the values of our kura and have talked about how we like to learn.
Together we are planning what learning experiences we want to share and are learning to be our own teacher.

Here are some pictures of us buddy reading. This is how we help each other learn to read.
